Breaking the silence: Memorial Conference in Phnom Penh 2012
Efforts to deal with widespread violence have grown over the course of the last decade, bringing a corresponding increase in time and resources invested in memorializing by the many different stakeholders. As we begin to look more critically at the conventional mechanisms of transitional justice, memorialization has emerged as an important component in dealing with the violence of the past.

TV report: The Courageous Turtle, project launch by TVK
For over a quarter of a century, the Cambodian people have waited for justice. The on-going Khmer Rouge tribunal at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) aims to provide that justice for those who died and those who survived the genocide. But the trials are also for a new generation — to educate Cambodia's youth about the darkest chapter in this country’s recent history. Since 2015, the Cambodian-German Cultural Association (KDKG e.V.), Meta House, and various partners have conducted the innovative school theatre project The Courageous Turtle.

Forum Theatre Documentary - How Villagers learn to deal with the Pol Pot legacy
The Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Cambodia is Cambodia’s leading NGO in the field of mental health care and psychosocial support. TPO uses forum theatre to instigate intergenerational dialogue around gender-based violence under the Khmer Rouge. Forum theatre is a type of theatre created by the innovative and influential film director Augusto Boal, one of the techniques under the umbrella term of “Theatre of the Oppressed” (TO). This relates to the engagement of spectators influencing and engaging with the performance as both spectators and actors, termed "spect-actors", with the power to stop and change the performance. As part of TO, the issues dealt with in forum theatre are often related to areas of social justice with the aim of exploring solutions to oppression featured in the performance.
